“Dark Side of the Moon.” Pink Floyd. Harvest. Probably the most commercial avant-garde rock album ever recorded, and certainly this English band’s finest effort. Released in 1973, “Dark Side” has been on the Billboard pop album chart ever since--609 weeks. Remarkably, the LP doesn’t sound dated. At its core are spacey, moody instrumentals in perfect sync with Roger Waters’ oblique lyrics. Largely thanks to engineer Alan Parsons, the album has always sounded great, and on CD it’s an often overwhelming listening experience. 1/2
