Pole Vaulter Quinon Set for Track Meet

SAN DIEGO — Pierre Quinon of France, the 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist in the pole vault, has joined the field for the upcoming Michelob Invitational indoor track meet, officials said Saturday.
Quinon’s entry gives the Feb. 23 meet at the San Diego Sports Arena, three of the top vaulters in the world. Also entered are Sergi Bubka of the Soviet Union, the outdoor record holder at 19-8, and Billy Olsen of the U.S., the indoor record holder at 19-4.
Quinon has topped 19-4, the third-best outdoor mark recorded.
