Loyola, Pepperdine Still Unbeaten in WCAC

Keith Smith collected 17 points and seven assists Friday night to lead Loyola Marymount to a 55-54 West Coast Athletic Conference victory over Santa Clara.

Forrest McKenzie added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Lions (3-0 in conference, 6-11 overall). Dan Weiss made all seven of his shots from the field and had 15 points to pace the Broncos (6-11 and 1-2).

Mike Yoest hit two free throws with six seconds remaining to give Loyola a 55-52 lead. Matt Wilgenbush scored at the buzzer for Santa Clara.

The Lions led, 25-23, at the intermission and hit 61% from the field in the second half.

Pepperdine 78, San Francisco 66--It took a 13-2 second-half spurt by the Waves to knock the Dons out of the game before 2,941 fans at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu. Eric White scored a game-high 22 points for Pepperdine (3-0 in the WCAC, 15-3 overall).
