Oakland Teachers Storm Office

OAKLAND — As the Oakland teachers strike ended its third week today, about 500 angry teachers stormed district headquarters to protest what one union leader called district “stalling” in contract negotiations.
“The teachers are mad as hell and that’s why they’re doing it,” said Kim Reynolds, a spokeswoman for the Oakland Education Assn., which represents 2,800 teachers. “The people are going to stay in the building all day,” she said. Teachers worked without a contract since mid-summer and walked out three weeks ago after both sides deadlocked on salaries, benefits, annuities and child development centers.
