Idaho Gov. Breaks Ankle While Jogging

ST. MARIES, Ida. — Gov. John V. Evans slipped on ice while jogging, broke his ankle and was forced to cancel a statewide campaign trip and return to Boise for treatment, possibly surgery, today.
Jean McNeil, the 60-year-old governor’s campaign press secretary, said Evans suffered “an unstable fracture” and torn ligaments of the right ankle while jogging Tuesday night. Evans, a Democrat, faces incumbent Republican Steven D. Symms in the U.S. Senate race this year.
