The U.S.-Japan aviation talks were recessed.

The talks ended without an agreement over a request for increased flights to Japan by United Airlines, which recently bought Pan American World Airways’ Pacific routes. A Transport Ministry official, briefing reporters on the condition that he not be identified by name, said the talks might resume next week. Jeffery Shane, U.S. State Department deputy assistant secretary for transportation, led the American delegation, which had no immediate comment on the two-day talks. Pan Am now has 33 flights a week but can expand its schedule if the Japanese approve additional flights.
