Murrey Royar Dies at 91
The former head of the U.S. Navy Supply Corp., Murrey Levering Royar, retired vice admiral, has died in Arlington, Va., after a brief illness. Royar was 91.
During a career that spanned almost four decades, Royar commanded the Navy’s two largest supply centers, in Oakland and in Norfolk, Va., and served as supply officer on several combat ships. Later, he led the Navy’s Officer Business Corp. and served as Navy paymaster general.
Recipient of the American Legion of Merit, Royar was also honored with awards from the governments of Great Britain, France and Norway.
At his death, he was living in the Navy’s Vinson Hall in McLean, Va. He is survived by two daughters and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
