32 NUDES PAINTED INTO A MASTERPIECE
LONDON — The great-great-grandson of artist John Constable has freshened up one of his ancestor’s landscape masterpieces by planting 32 naked women in the rustic scene.
Richard Constable has painted “Haywain ‘85,†a copy of the 1821 original, with the addition of nudes sitting on the hay cart, bathing in the river and chatting on its banks.
He said he does not intend to insult his illustrious forebear--he just likes painting nudes and landscapes. He plans to update other John Constable paintings in similar style.
“Haywain ‘85†is on show at Crewkerne, England, about a week by hay cart away from the 19th-Century master’s beloved Dedham Vale in Essex.
