Tandon has named former IBM executive William L. Sydnes, 41, as vice president for engineering and development, a new position.

Sydnes is the third executive involved in launching IBM’s PC in 1981 to be hired by the Chatsworth-based disk drive and personal-computer maker in six weeks. Sydnes, who was engineering manager for the IBM project, most recently was president of Systems Networks & Peripherals in Moorestown, N.J.
