UC San Diego’s Soccer Coach Honored
Derek Armstrong, whose UC San Diego men’s soccer team advanced to the NCAA Division 3 quarterfinals, was named Far West Region Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America.
The Tritons went 21-2 this season, the best record in UCSD history. During the four years Armstrong has been coach, UCSD is 56-17-7 and has qualified for the NCAA tournament three times.
Armstrong now is eligible for consideration as national coach of the year.
