College Trustees Vote Selves Pay Increases
Trustees in all four of the county’s community college districts have voted themselves pay raises from 9.4 to 12.5 times their current salaries.
Salaries in the Coast Community College district will jump from $40 a meeting to $750 monthly. In the North Orange County district, board spokeswoman Carol Goold said pay will go up next year from $30 for each meeting attended to $750 a month.
In the Saddleback and Rancho Santiago districts, the pay will increase from $20 a meeting to $400 a month.
The boards normally meet twice monthly, and trustees must attend all meetings to collect the full salary. A pro rata amount will be deducted for each meeting missed, Goold said.
The trustees, most of whose salaries have been frozen by state law for the last 15 years, were empowered by the Legislature last June to increase their salaries in accordance with a scale pegged to district enrollment.
