Terrence M. Scanlon, seeking confirmation as chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, admitted in a letter that “on occasion†during his three years as a commissioner he used government employees and equipment for personal business. Scanlon was answering an inquiry from Sen. John C. Danforth (R-Mo.) about allegations that typing and copying for the anti-abortion Right to Life lobby were done in the commission office. He earlier had denied using his staff for non-governmental business.
