The Bernie Winter Memorial Peace Fund has been established to further the advancement of peace and social justice. The Peace Resource Center, 5717 Lindo Paseo, will act as fiscal sponsor for the fund.
Dr. Bernard Winter, a retired oral surgeon and resident of La Jolla who died last month, was a founding member of San Diego Physicians for Social Responsibility.
He was an active supporter of the anti-apartheid movement, equal rights for minorities and women, the environment, nuclear disarmament, and social justice and self-determination in the Third World, according to the fund’s sponsors.
Proceeds will be used to grant annual awards for outstanding local projects that best serve the advancement of peace and social justice.
