Two Parades Signal March Into Holidays

Two parades are scheduled today to help get the Christmas season off on the right foot.

First up is that crazy spoof on holiday parades, Pasadena’s Doo Dah Parade, stepping off at noon from Fair Oaks Avenue and Union Street. There will be the customary cast of zanies, such as the Synchronized Briefcase Drill Team. It’s been a crazy happening since 1978, and sponsors promise it won’t be any saner this year.

The old-timer is the 54th annual Hollywood Christmas Parade, which will make its way along Sunset and Hollywood boulevards from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with actor William Shatner serving as this year’s grand marshal. It starts at the corner of Sunset and Van Ness Avenue.

The sponsor is the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Folks there say their parade will feature 100 stars and celebrities, along with floats, antique cars, marching bands and Santa Claus.
