SDSU Will Try to Even Season Record in Final Game Against Hawaii Tonight

San Diego State’s football team will attempt to finish with a .500 record for the first time in three years when its season concludes tonight against Hawaii.

The Aztecs (5-6) are coming off home victories over Texas El Paso (34-6) and New Mexico (55-20). They have not had three consecutive victories since 1982.

SDSU is sixth nationally in total offense and 13th in scoring. The Aztecs have gained more than 500 yards in three straight games and seven of the last nine.

Webster Slaughter needs eight receptions tonight to break the school single-season record of 86 set by Dwight McDonald in 1974. Slaughter has caught 79 passes for 1,046 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Chris Hardy, who has rushed for 1,059 yards, is the fifth Aztec in history to have surpassed 1,000 yards rushing in a season. Chris O’Brien has made 24 straight field-goal attempts, a Western Athletic Conference record.

Hawaii’s top offensive threat is Walter Murray, who has caught 55 passes for 875 yards and 7 touchdowns. Murray is the team’s all-time leading career receiver with 167 receptions for 2,769 yards and 20 touchdowns.

The Rainbows are 1-5 at home and 3-0-1 on the road this year.
