Midfielder Alberto Bru of Cal State Los Angeles was named to the All-Southwest Soccer Conference first team this week. As a senior at Chatsworth High in 1981, Bru was City Player of the Year.
Cal State Northridge volleyball Coach Walt Ker was named Coach of the Year in a vote of California Collegiate Athletic Assn. coaches Wednesday. The Lady Matadors claimed the conference title with a 22-9 overall record and have won 15 straight games.
Four players from California Collegiate Athletic Assn. soccer champion Cal State Northridge have earned all-league honors. Named to the first team were Phil Heaver, Frank Cubillos, Mike McAndrew and Thor Lee.
In the first day of a Professional Golfers Assn. qualifying tournament at Haines City, Fla., Duffy Waldorf of Tarzana was six shots behind leader Davis Love of St. Simons Island, Ga., after carding an even-par 72. Tedd Lehmann of Thousand Oaks was three shots behind Waldorf.
