A 21-month-old Escondido boy died of massive head injuries Sunday morning after he was struck by a truck in a neighbor’s driveway, Escondido police reported. Gregory Scott Gillis, son of Greg and Leslie Gillis, was chasing a ball when he was hit by a pick-up truck that was backing out of a driveway in the 800 block of Chamberlain Street at 10:10 a.m.
The driver of the truck, Richard Campbell, 27, lives a few doors down from the Gillis’, police said. The boy was taken by paramedics to Palomar Hospital where he died in the emergency room about 11 a.m., coroner’s deputies said.
