Temple City : Council Seat Filled

The City Council has appointed Patrick Froehle to the seat formerly held by Jack Tyrell, who died Oct. 10 of cancer.

Froehle, 39, who has lived in Temple City since 1969, has worked for the Los Angeles Police Department for 18 years. He also has served as chairman of the Planning Commission for two years.

Although the council could have called a special election to replace Tyrell, the members chose to appoint Froehle in the interest of time, city spokeswoman Mary Wilford said.

Tyrell, who founded Temple City and had sat on the council since its inception in 1969, served on the Public Safety, Juvenile Diversion and the California Contract Cities commissions at the time of his death.

Froehle was sworn in at the end of the council’s Oct. 15 meeting and will assume his seat at the council’s next meeting, scheduled for Nov. 5.
