FALL SPORTS ROUNDUP : Kohler, Duffy Lead Louisville Past Alemany in Volleyball
The Louisville High volleyball team escaped from Alemany with a narrow victory Tuesday, 8-15, 15-12, 15-9, 14-16 and 15-9.
Setter Tina Kohler, the team captain, helped middle blocker Tricia Duffy to seven kills, and Alemany was kept in check by the powerful blocking of middle blocker Nancy Hawkins.
Louisville is in second place behind Chaminade in the San Fernando Valley League with a 10-3 record.
The Campbell Hall volleyball team, which has already won a share of the Delphic League title, put the finishing touches on its regular season Monday by beating Crossroads, 15-11, 15-6 and 15-6. Campbell Hall is tied for first place with Brentwood.
The Vikings, who finished 9-1 in league and 13-4 overall, will compete in the Southern Section Small Schools division playoffs next week.
Defending Southern Section 2-A volleyball champion Nordhoff defeated Calabasas, 15-6, 15-10, 15-7, to remain undefeated in seven Frontier League matches.
Nordhoff, which is currently ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section, was led by ’84 Southern Section MVP Amy Svikhart, who had 12 kills. Nordhoff’s Lisa Dalmatoff and Teri Johnson had nine and eight kills respectively. Leeana Merriweather served 14 points behind the setting of Cristy Sawyer and Lisa Rich.
Calabasas is 5-2 in league and 7-3 overall. Despite the loss, Calabasas is headed for the playoffs, which begin next week.
