Cardiff House Destroyed by Fire

A Cardiff home suspected of housing a drug lab sustained $150,000 in damage Sunday after an explosion sparked a fire that gutted the house, said Steve Marvin, Encinitas Fire Department spokesman. No one was injured in the blaze.
About 3:30 a.m. Saturday, an explosion in the bathroom of the house, on the 1600 block of Falcon Hill Court in Cardiff, caused the blaze, and the house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Marvin said. The door of a small refrigerator in the bathroom was blown through a wall of the house and traveled 20 feet to a backyard fence, he added.
Investigators from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration are investigating the cause of the fire, he said.
