JC FOOTBALL : Pierce Reserve Leads a 49-23 Rout

Pierce College didn’t take long to show that it was ready to defend its Southern California Conference title.
On the first play from scrimmage, quarterback Steve Haddad hit receiver Anthony Sargent with a 78-yard touchdown pass. Pierce never looked back. The Brahmas put on an offensive exhibition and routed host East L.A. College, 49-23, in the SCC opener for both teams. The win was the Brahmas’ 11th straight in SCC play.
However, Haddad was injured on the scoring play and did not return to the game.
Josh Davis took advantage of his unexpected playing time. The freshman quarterback completed 16 of 29 passes for 278 yards. Tailback Tyrone Beaulieu increased Pierce’s advantage to 21-0 early in the second quarter when he sprinted 11 yards for his third touchdown of the season.
Pierce limited the Huskies to minus 12 yards rushing in the first half, as it enjoyed a 28-10 lead at halftime.
Pete Garavito, the SCC’s second-rated quarterback, completed 29 of 47 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns for the Huskies, who fell to 2-3.
