A review of the Maywood Area Transit system, coupled with customers’ comments, has prompted transportation officials to drop fixed-route bus service, converting the system to entirely dial-a-ride and adding service on Sundays. The fixed route, which operated from 7 to 8:30 a.m. on major streets, was discontinued Monday because anticipated ridership never materialized, said Ed Ahrens, director of community services.
Hours of operation for dial-a-ride service have been expanded, however, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bus service on Sundays, a result of repeated customer requests, will begin Oct. 20 by advanced reservation only. Sunday service will operate from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
