Police evacuated eight to 10 homes in the San Carlos area Sunday after utility workers traced an odor of gas to a small leak in a natural gas service line. The leak, reported at about 7:40 a.m., was repaired shortly after 11 a.m., a spokesman for the utility said. The residents were allowed to return home, and service was restored to six homes that had lost it.
David Kusumoto, a San Diego Gas & Electric Co. spokesman, said workers found a small hole in a service line on the 6200 block of Cowles Mountain Boulevard.
