Alvin Dark was named director of minor league teams and player development for the Chicago White Sox.
The appointment was made by Ken Harrelson, the club’s recently named executive vice president of baseball operations.
Dark, 63, a star shortstop as a player, had five stints as a manager with the San Francisco Giants, Kansas City and Oakland A’s, Cleveland Indians and San Diego Padres.
His 1962 Giants won the National League pennant, and his 1974 Oakland A’s won the World Series.
