Elderly Couple Found Slain; Suspect Turns Himself In
A retired couple were found bludgeoned to death in their West Hollywood apartment Tuesday, 30 minutes after a man flagged down a police patrol car and told officers he was involved in a double murder, authorities said.
The victims were identified as Harry and Freda Abramowitz of 1258 N. Sweetzer Ave. He would have marked his 76th birthday today. She was 71.
Sheriff’s Deputy Bob Stoneman said Charles First Jr., 25, was booked on two counts of suspicion of murder.
“They were my neighbors for 14 years,†said Lee Bernhardt, who lived across the hall in Sweetzer Gardens Apartments. “They were outstanding people of the highest caliber. They were very religious and charitable people.â€
Stoneman said First approached a police at 1st and Hill streets in downtown Los Angeles at 3:15 a.m. and told the officers his story. The officers alerted deputies, who found the bodies.
Stoneman said homicide detectives declined to speculate on the motive for the slayings.
