Ann Meyers, starting guard on the U.S. Olympic women’s basketball team that won the silver medal in 1976, was one of four athletes inducted to the Women’s Sports Foundation Hall of Fame in New York.
Meyers, the first woman to get a full basketball scholarship to UCLA, became a four-time All-American with the Bruins and led them to a national championship. In 1979, she was given a tryout with the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Assn. She has since worked in sports broadcasting.
Other athletes inducted were swimmer Ann Curtis Cunieo, who won the Sullivan Award as the nation’s top amateur athlete in 1944, Soviet gymnast Larissa Latynina and Australian swimmer Dawn Fraser.
