Prince William Starts Kindergarten and Makes History
LONDON — Three-year-old Prince William made royal history today when he began kindergarten in a $280-a-semester school run by a bishop’s daughter in the basement of her west London home.
William, first-born son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, is the first heir to the British throne to receive his preschool education at a kindergarten. Charles received his early education at Buckingham Palace.
William, dressed in striped sweater and red shorts, arrived for his first day at Jane Mynor’s kindergarten in Chepstow Villas, Notting Hill, a smart, Victorian row house five minutes’ drive from his home at Kensington Palace.
After prompting from Diana, William gave a somewhat reluctant royal wave to nearly 100 photographers pressing against police barriers, then turned and marched down the steps into the kindergarten, followed by his parents.
Two hours later, he left, clutching the fruits of his first day’s labors--a crayon-colored paper mouse with a string tail.
