U.S.: ‘Opponent of Revolution?’
Concerning Anderson’s quote from Thomas Jefferson that “the tree of liberty must be watered from time to time with the blood of tyrants.â€
That is not exactly the way Jefferson put it. What he did say was that “the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.†It does make a difference.
Jefferson also noted that “a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical.â€
