Sunny Skies Due Back--at Least Today

Stormy weather should be gone --at least for today--from San Diego County, but clouds may return Saturday and Sunday, when another low-pressure system travels into Southern California.

The air began to dry and sunshine returned Thursday as the moisture-laden low-pressure system that brought rain throughout the county this week moved east.

A weak ridge of high pressure is expected to roll in today, according to the National Weather Service, generating seasonable weather and sunny skies on the penultimate day of summer.

The fifth low-pressure system in a summer series is moving down from the Pacific Northwest and is expected to center west of Santa Barbara on Saturday, influencing San Diego in the form of clouds and slightly cooler temperatures. This weekend’s low-pressure system, however, is expected to be weaker, packing less moisture than the last. No rain is expected.

By Sunday, the first day of autumn, temperatures may cool more, and forecasters said showers may threaten mountain areas.

Mountain areas should be dry and clear today with highs from 55 to 65 degrees and lows in the 40s. Desert highs in the 80s will drop to 55 to 65 degrees tonight. Daytime inland valley highs of 75 to 83 degrees will drop to nighttime lows in the 50s.

Temperatures at the beach will be 68 to 73 degrees, with a water temperature of 65 degrees. Coastal strip highs of 72 to 76 degrees should fall to between 57 and 64 at night.

Forecasters are also keeping an eye on Hurricane Terry. If the hurricane continues to travel north and reaches mid-Baja California on Monday, more stormy weather will invade San Diego County on Monday or Tuesday.
