Deyna and Sockers Close to Agreement on Two-Year Pact
SAN DIEGO — It appears to be only a matter of time before midfielder Kaz Deyna will sign a two-year contract with the Sockers.
Deyna and his agent, Scott Simpson, were hoping to finalize a contract when they met Friday with Socker Owner Bob Bell. They left without a signed contract, but the parties were close.
“You reach a point in all negotiations when you know whether you’ll sign,†Bell said. “We have an agreement with minor points to be worked out. He’s not officially signed. That’s just a formality.â€
Deyna, 37, is believed to have been offered a two-year contract worth $85,000 annually, his 1984-85 salary. Deyna is thought to be asking for a slight increase. That’s apparently the “minor†difference between parties.
