Former UCLA star Steve Patterson, a five-year veteran of the National Basketball Assn. and an assistant coach last season at Arizona State, will serve as Arizona State’s head basketball coach for the 1985-86 season.
Athletic Director Charles Harris said that despite a monthlong search, the school had been unable to find a suitable outside candidate for the job and has decided that Patterson should continue for one season as interim coach, a position he has held since Bob Weinhauer was fired July 9.
