AIDS Law Passes L.A. Council
The Los Angeles City Council today unanimously adopted an ordinance banning discrimination against people who have contracted acquired immunity deficiency syndrome or who suffer from an AIDS-related condition.
The ordinance--believed to be the first of its kind in the nation--includes civil penalties against employers who fire or refuse to hire AIDS victims, businesses that deny service to them and landlords who evict tenants with the disease or who refuse to rent to them. It is expected to be signed by Mayor Tom Bradley.
