‘America and Its Poor’
Your series on poverty in America should be a textbook for our legislators, our educators, and our doctors.
Never have I seen the individual accidents of life that can cause such tragedies so well expressed and explained.
I borrowed your paper, as I had to cancel my own subscription, due to hard times, and I have passed your articles on to others.
In a country like ours, with so many people scrambling for more video cassettes, more pasta machines, etc., it’s truly even more shocking how we cannot agree to care for our own.
Why is it that Americans believe that poverty is one’s own fault and with so little compassion blame its victims?
