Public’s Love Affair Leads to Bad Policy

Regarding “President’s Tax Reform Plan Deserves to Die†(John F. Lawrence, June 30), if the President talks big and thinks little, and if the public unwittingly likes it that way, we are in trouble.

We know the danger: Unwilling to give up its love affair with President Reagan, and backing his every whim, the public is contributing to the implementation of bad financial policy.

If in its love-besot way, the public is accepting bad proposals, then good tax reform must fail, just as the deficit problem is smoke-screened away.
