The Arlington Million will be run as scheduled, possibly at the Arlington Park Race Track using makeshift seats to replace grandstands destroyed in a fire last week, track officials announced.
“We’ll try to make accommodations by putting seats under tents,” Ralph Ross, a partner in Arlington Park, said after an emergency meeting of the Illinois Racing Board at Chicago.
The Racing Board formally approved a request to move 54 of Arlington’s remaining thoroughbred racing dates to Hawthorne Park in Cicero, Ill. but allowed Arlington to retain one date, leaving open the possibility the Aug. 25 Million would be run at the track.
