New GM Hughes President

General Motors Corp. directors elected Donald J. Atwood president of GM Hughes Electronics Corp., the new GM subsidiary that will control Hughes Aircraft on completion of the $5.2-billion acquisition.
Atwood, who has held a variety of managerial positions in GM, will remain a GM executive vice president and board member.
In addition to Hughes, Atwood’s responsibilities as head of GM Hughes will include operating GM’s Delco electronics division, AC Spark Plug’s instrument and display systems business unit and Delco systems operations.
The chairman of GM Hughes is GM Chairman Roger B. Smith. Allen E. Puckett remains chairman and chief executive of Hughes Aircraft.
