Veteran Actor James F. Nolan Dies of Cancer

James F. Nolan, a television and film character actor seen in more than 40 motion pictures, has died of cancer at the Motion Picture and Television Hospital in Woodland Hills.
He died Monday at age 69.
The San Francisco native and World War II veteran played a variety of film roles. He was a villain in “Dirty Harry,” a priest in “Airport” and was Barbra Streisand’s grandfather in “All Night Long.” His other pictures included “The Shootist” and “Charley Varrick.”
He was seen often on television on “The Waltons,” “Get Smart,” “Gangster Chronicles,” “Rich Man, Poor Man” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”
Nolan, who had no immediate family, worked for several years as a stage actor in San Francisco and New York before moving to Hollywood in the 1950s.
Funeral services were held Thursday in San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be sent to the Motion Picture and Television Country House and Hospital, 234450 Calabasas Road, Woodland Hills, 91364.
