Costa Mesa : Rider Seriously Injured in Fall From Motorcycle
A motorcycle rider was seriously injured Tuesday when he fell from his bike and slid into a car on northbound Newport Boulevard near Bay Street, police said.
The 8:05 a.m. accident tied up rush-hour traffic on the boulevard for about 90 minutes, Officer Bob Baumgardner said.
Baumgardner said the motorcyclist, Dick Jurgens, 33, was taken to Fountain Valley Community Hospital in serious condition. Jurgens suffered a possible internal injury and numerous cuts and bruises.
Police alleged that Jurgens was racing with another rider when he lost control, fell from his motorcycle and slid into the back of a car.
No citations were issued pending further investigation.
