Pentagon Money Vote Delayed
WASHINGTON — The House Democratic leadership today delayed until September any floor vote on a bill authorizing Pentagon spending for the next fiscal year.
House Speaker Thomas P. (Tip) O’Neill Jr. (D-Mass.) said “there were a lot of feathers ruffled†among House Democrats upset about concessions made to the Senate during a House-Senate conference committee. The chief complaint is that the bill authorizes a Pentagon budget of $302.5 billion, more than $10 billion above the figure approved by the House.
