San Diego
San Diego police are making a public appeal for information about a sniper shooting Friday that resulted in the death of a University City man.
Police were initially unsure whetheer Brent Scott Costew, 26, was shot before or after he entered his white 1984 Ford pickup truck. But during a Monday afternoon news conference, police revealed testimony indicating that Costew was shot by a sniper’s bullet while talking to two or three people in a parked car on Regents Road under the California 52 underpass. After hearing the gunshot, witnesses observed Costew return to his truck and drive a short distance north of California 52. His car then drifted off the road and hit a parked car, police said. Costew was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say testimony from motorists who may have passed through the busy intersection Friday afternoon could help them solve the pending homicide case. Police ask that anyone with information about the shooting or accident call the police department’s Crime Stoppers unit at 235-TIPS.
