Bomb Plot Suspect to Be Tested
RENO — A Los Angeles man indicted in the planting of a bomb at Reno Cannon International Airport last month will be sent to a federal penitentiary for evaluation of what is described as post-traumatic stress syndrome caused by his service in Vietnam.
Roger Dale Stockham, 38, who has a history of mental problems and criminal offenses, is charged with planting a pipe bomb at the airport on June 27 and with possession of an unregistered firearm.
The pipe bomb was defused by police.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Brian Sullivan said in federal court Wednesday that Stockham suffers from a mental condition brought on by his service as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam.
Sullivan noted that Stockham has been found innocent by reason of insanity for previous offenses and said he should be examined thoroughly at the U.S. Penitentiary in Springfield, Mo.
