Syrians to Secure Beirut Airport

BEIRUT — Syrian advisers will supervise a new security plan for the Beirut airport, site of the TWA hijacking crisis that inspired a U.S. boycott, the Lebanese government said today.
Defense Minister Adel Osseiran said riot police of Squad 16, heavily armed men who are patrolling Muslim West Beirut with an army backup, will control main roads leading to the airport on a 24-hour basis. Workmen were seen today building an eight-foot-high concrete wall, topped with barbed wire, along the airport perimeter.
