Deukmejian OKs Clerical Error
I am totally outraged that a member of my own party, Gov. Deukmejian, should have put his signature on a bill that prevents family-planning providers, who also provide the legal choice of a safe abortion, from receiving state money. It was not on his desk fairly or legally, yet he signed it with pleasure because it reflected his personal opinion.
Come the next election he will not get my vote, nor that of my Republican friends who believe in choice. We will give our dollars to and work for his opponent.
In his dishonesty he may yet find he has aroused the majority, a sleeping giant, of people who believe abortion must remain an option and who see his bill as causing more abortions, as providers must serve fewer young women to make the dollars stretch!
