AMERICAN WINS SINGING CONTEST

CARDIFF, Wales — Baritone David Malis, who performs with the San Francisco Opera, won the second Cardiff Singer of the World competition sponsored by the British Broadcasting Corp.
Jutta Bokor of Hungary won second prize and Yue Liu of China and Anne Williams King of Wales were joint third prize winners.
Malis, 28, from La Grange, Ga., received $3,900, a crystal commemorative bowl and the opportunity to appear on BBC television and radio.
