Manila Riot Police Halt Protesting Clergy

MANILA — Riot police prevented about 500 Roman Catholic priests, nuns and Protestant pastors from marching on the presidential palace today to protest the killing of church leaders.
The protesters, carrying a cross bearing the names of slain priests and pastors, were stopped several blocks from President Ferdinand E. Marcos’ official residence by about 100 riot police. No violence or arrests were reported.
