Saving Flowers

For several days, about 10,000 residents who were evacuated from their homes because of the chemical fire in Anaheim slept in Red Cross shelters set up in local schools. Many worried about their homes and what potential damage the chemical fumes might cause.

Public safety officials fought the fumes, patrolled the evacuated area and provided the protection people have come to expect. But there was more, a message of optimism and beauty. When residents of the Anaheim Royal mobile home park returned home they found that the flowers around the park’s recreational area had been watered. They assumed it was done by police who had been guarding the neighborhood--and protecting its beauty as well.
