EAST COUNTY
A 26-year-old San Diego man died in a hang-gliding accident Saturday afternoon about a mile east of the 10900 block of Quail Canyon Road, the county coroner’s office reported. Officials said the accident occurred in a rural, unincorporated area east of El Cajon and Lake Jennings, that is a popular retreat for hang gliders.
Edwin Conrad Seger Jr., who had been active in the sport for about seven months, had just taken off from a cliff when he experienced difficulty with his equipment and veered back into a hillside, a spokesman for the coroner’s office said.
The Life Flight helicopter was sent to the accident, but paramedics pronounced Seger dead at the scene, with massive internal and head injuries.
