Westlake Will Lead South in All-Star Games
If the South team emerges victorious in tonight’s Ventura County North-South all-star basketball games, Westlake High will have a big hand in it.
Roy Gilmore and Nancy Bowman, both from Westlake, will coach the boys and girls teams. Gilmore will also have a Westlake player on his team, while Bowman will have the services of three of the players off her Marmonte League championship team of this spring.
Both all-star contests will be played at the Buena High gym in Ventura. The girls game begins at 7:30 p.m., and the boys game follows.
Ten members of the South’s boys team played at Valley-area high schools: Steve Banales, Phil Hahn and Jim Usher of Camarillo; Mark Robinson, Christian Aurand and Sean Harrigan of Simi Valley; Chad Staples and Nils Slattum of Newbury Park; Rod Bowen of Westlake, and Jeff French of Thousand Oaks.
The South’s girls team includes Michelle Stevens, Michelle Compton and Carole Smiley of Westlake; Jennifer Tallungan and Michelle Gross of Newbury Park; Kippie Brown of Thousand Oaks; Rachel Wilson of Simi Valley, and Stephanie Gray of Royal.
