Czech Paper Complains About Youths’ T-Shirts

PRAGUE, Czechoslovakia — The country’s official style-setters Thursday found fault with one of Europe’s most popular teen-age fashions--T-shirts emblazoned with English words and collegiate emblems.
The youth newspaper Mlada Fronta, one of the most influential organs of the government-controlled press, complained about the trend on the eve of the summer tourist season.
“Very often the owner of the shirt doesn’t realize what his chest publicizes--let alone his ability to spell the foreign label properly--even though he sometimes declares himself as a student of the University of Michigan,” the paper said.
In a separate article, the newspaper complained about not enough English where it counts.
