Costa Mesa : Driver Dies of Injuries After Car Slams Into Pole
A Westminster man died early Friday from injuries received when his car apparently went out of control and struck a light pole on Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa, police said.
Witnesses said Vito Anthony La Barbara, 23, was traveling north on Placentia at a high rate of speed when his Datsun 280-Z struck the pole just south of Swan Drive about 9:15 p.m. Thursday. La Barbara had to be pried from the vehicle, police said.
La Barbara was transported to Fountain Valley Community Hospital where he died from massive head and chest injuries at 1:30 a.m. Friday, police said.
